About The SportsTrader
My name is Tony Hargraves, I started trading in 2004, after a friend requested I find a way to back all events in a match and win regardless of the result. The resulting search found Betfair which was not well known in Australia and the rest is history — we opened accounts and played with the numbers and now consider it the only way to operate in the sports-betting industry. It is certainly the only place you can bet without having your account swiftly closed for winning. Bookmakers are even closing losing accounts now if you dare beat the starting price a couple of times.
By 2008 I was trading full time. I was an active member of a Betfair Traders Forum, posting videos and advice for users of the Betfair exchange. At the suggestion of a friend, I started teaching via trading courses at various locations around the U.K.
I then spent nearly 3 years in Scotland getting involved with the UK trading community, making many friends and great contacts in the trading business. I joined numerous trading and betting forums, and enjoy helping people get started on their trading journey. It is an exciting new concept to many and the realisation of how it is possible to make money from trading sports while the game is actually in-play really opens the eyes of a lot of people that have grown up just popping into the bookies and having a tenner on their team.
I have had people fly in from Europe and fly and drive all over the UK for the courses and all have had an enjoyable day. I do group or individual courses and really enjoy meeting the people in person.
I returned from Australia in 2012 where I was running seminars for Betfair Australia and have also done many training courses for them in England and Ireland.
My main trading focus now is on UK football and Australian horse racing. I mainly do in running trading with limited attention to pre race trading using the incredible BetJet Pro trading software. It is light years ahead for in running trading.
I no longer find pre race a viable option and feel it is a 50/50 proposition and not worth the effort compared to in running, so that is where I am fully focussed now. You also need a massive bank to make small amounts with pre race trading and there are far easier options.
It appears the old style forums are now pretty dead and cumbersome and most trading groups have moved to Telegram or What’s App. We use Telegram and have rooms for horse racing, greyhounds, football, cricket, tennis, rugby, elections, and a Trade Only room where members post their own trades for others to follow if they wish. They are all free to join so you can mix with many like minded people.
2023 saw the launch of BetJet Cloud. That is a service for people too busy to trade or not sure of what to do. We place the bets we do for you, on your Betfair account. It’s all done via Betfair with full Betfair security, the only information we have from you is your email address, as we need to issue you a code to join the cloud service. Check it out on the BetJet Cloud page, via the menu above.
I do hold grave concerns for greyhounds and racing with the implementation of affordability checks by the UK gambling commission. Even if they are never realised, the damage is done already by bookmakers initiating their own checks, and if you don’t comply, you are shut down. It’s already happened to 10’s of thousands of punters and the actual checks are not even official yet. This will have a severe negative impact on the horse racing and greyhound industries, and they could even be gone by the end of 2025 if something isn’t done fast. No right minded person would hand over personal financial information like bank statements and tax information to a bookmaker, but it seems it is a case of comply or be closed. It seems most people are choosing to close.
I have therefore moved my trading operation to Australia, where such incredibly damaging measures are not inflicted on the betting public (yet) and hope to resume live courses in 2025. I will continue doing courses online and in my home, and if requested, in your home.
